IMAGES ENGAGE THE VIEWERS IMAGINATION AT TIDEWATER’S NOVEMBER EXHIBIT

Downtown Stockton’s Tidewater Art Center & Gallery presents “Beyond the Obvious”, photographer Steve Pereira’s whimsical tour-de-force of common images altered into artful icons which stretch the viewer’s imagination. The exhibit will also display the evolution of the geometric images Steve created and completed for the unique etching process of the elegant elevator doors in the new San Joaquin Administration building.

Steve’s unique exhibit opens on November 2, 2010 and continues through December 3, 2010. The public is invited to meet the artist at a wine and hors d’oeuvres reception on Friday, November 19, from 5-8 p.m., on the 3rd Friday in November.

Recognized by the Stockton Arts Commission in 2009 for Outstanding Achievement in the Visual Arts, and worldwide for his maritime photography, Steve’s early photographic career began inadvertently while working shipboard. He went on to become a freelance maritime photographer known for capturing strong graphic images as well as those evoking the solitary life of the seaman. His work has been exhibited at the Haggin Museum, the Stockton Law Library, and the Tidewater Gallery and has been featured at the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park Visitors Center and on the Isle of Wight in England. Steve is also an active member of the Board of Directors of the Tidewater Art Gallery

The Tidewater Art Center & Gallery, an artists’ collaborative located directly across the street from the county Courthouse at 223 E. Weber Avenue, is open Monday-Friday from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
