Some of the world’s most beautiful parrots will return to Micke Grove Zoo this summer – and guests can have them eating right out of their hand.
The popular “Lorikeets!” exhibit will return for a second straight season beginning Saturday, May 1.
Like last year, these brightly-colored and noisy birds will be housed at the zoo’s temporary Lorikeet Adventure area, an open-air aviary designed for public interaction.
Uniquely adapted to be nectar feeders, the lorikeets can interact with visitors who will be able to purchase small cups of food for the birds.
Once inside the enclosure, visitors may experience the birds landing on arms, hands and even heads in an attempt to sip the sweet nectar.
Entry into “Lorikeets!” is included in the price of Zoo admission, which has been increased to help cover cost of the exhibit.
Adult admission is $3, admission for youth ages three to 17 years is $2. Children two years and under are free.
Cups of lorikeet nectar will be available for $1.
“Lorikeets!” will be open through October 3 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and until 5:30 p.m. on summer weekends and holidays.
