“White Christmas” is Stockton Civic Theatre’s offering for this holiday season. The musical is based on the beloved, timeless 1954 film starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. Music and lyrics were written by Irving Berlin, with book by David Ives and Paul Blake. This special holiday production, sponsored by Chase Chevrolet, is directed by SCT artistic director Jim Coleman.

This heart-warming musical adaptation features seventeen Irving Berlin songs. The dazzling score includes “White Christmas,” “Count Your Blessings,” “Blue Skies,” “I Love a Piano,” and “How Deep is the Ocean?”.

After leaving the Army after WWII, Bob Wallace, played by Shaun Baker, and Phil Davis, played by James Reed, team up to become a top song-and-dance act. They become romantically involved with a sister song-and-dance act (Betty Haynes, played by Lydia Merriam-Pigg, and Judy Haynes, played by Tiffany Davis) and follow them to a Vermont lodge to perform a Christmas show, only to find their former commander, played by Stephen Orr, is the lodge owner. A series of romantic mix-ups ensue as the performers try to help the General save the failing lodge. Other principals include Peggy Coleman, Rachel Foley, Christopher Martin, Melissa Esau, Terra Fearrand, David Baldwin, and Jeremy Hannen.

Director Coleman has directed numerous musicals for SCT, as well as serving as musical director under other directors, and will do both with “White Christmas.” Evelyn Barney will choreograph the show.
