Elena Urioste, violinViolinist Elena Urioste, of Mexican-Basque heritage, was named First-Place Laureate in both Junior and Senior divisions of the Sphinx Competition for talented young Latino and African-American musicians. Hailed for her eloquent tone, nuanced lyricism, and commanding charisma on stage, this rapidly rising star captured first prize at the 2007 Sion International Violin Competition and was one of three recipients of the prestigious London Music Masters Award. The Detroit Metro Times proclaims that “there’s a level of brilliance to her technique that lets her expose the heart of the music.
