The Tidewater Art Center & Gallery, in downtown Stockton, will present an edgy solo exhibit featuring representational expressionist artist Ra, formerly known as Sarah Lippincott, a gallery member artist.
The unique exhibit opens May 4 and runs through June 4.
A "Meet-the-Artist" reception will be held on Friday, May 14, from 5-8 p.m.
Entitled "The Rise of Ra", the exhibit reflects the artist's multi-talents through a compilation of charcoal, paint, mixed media, and installation. A graduate of the Art Institute of Atlanta, Sarah's residences in New England, the south and the west coast throughout her life have influenced her artwork. Other inspiration has come from her studies abroad in the Netherlands, Paris, and Belize.
Her appreciation of nature, the concern for our planet's fragile ecosystem, the complexities of human interaction and emotion impact her outpouring of paintings, charcoal pieces and line drawings.
"Ra" is a nickname given to the artist by her grandparents after visiting an Egyptian Museum for her 12th birthday. Ra is one of the titles given to the Egyptian God of the sun and represents the love her grandparents had for her as well as a derivative of Sarah. The sun is of tremendous importance to the world and the process of art. Without the sunlight there is no lighting, shapes or color.
The Tidewater Art Center & Gallery, an artists' collaborative located directly across the street from the county Courthouse at 223 E. Weber Avenue, is open Monday-Friday from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
