87th Annual McKee Student Art Contest & Exhibition

This event has already taken place, but here is the past event information

The Haggin Museum continues the longest-running student art competition in the United States!

March 22 - April 29, 2018

This event features the work of student artists from kindergarten through grade 12. The exhibition was first envisioned by founding patron Robert T. McKee, whose goal was to encourage students by providing a public venue for their artwork. All schools in San Joaquin County—public, private, charter, parochial and home-schools—receive invitations to submit their work.

On average, Haggin receives 1,000 pieces of art chosen by the teachers as the best in their class. The Museum’s Tuleburg and West galleries will be filled with two- and three-dimensional artworks created in crayon, colored pencil, pastel, watercolor, oil and acrylic paint, photography, and other mediums.

2018 McKee Exhibition Judge:

  • The Education Department is pleased to announce the selection of Gabriel Reyes as this year’s McKee Exhibition Judge. Reyes, a Stockton-native, attended Academy of Art University: San Francisco Art School and has been involved with promoting the Stockton arts community as a member, and former president, of the 1850 Collective. The local arts group organized its first exhibition in March 2016. Named after the year Stockton was officially founded, it was an idea brought to life by over a dozen Stockton artists, and nurtured by the growing downtown community. Reyes continues to show his artwork in exhibitions regionally.

Opening Reception:

  • Sunday, March 25, 2018, 1:30 - 3 pm: This year the Museum will hold a welcome reception for students, their families, and teachers on March 25th. This event is FREE to everyone and sponsored by the Junior Women’s Group of the Haggin Museum who will provide punch and cookies to the guests.

The 2018 annual county-wide student art show opens on March 22. All San Joaquin county K-12 teachers will be invited to drop off artwork March 8-10, 2018.
