Chamber Music Concert Gryphon Trio

Musical Insight, Technical Accomplishment and Passionate Commitment

Performance April 10th

The Gryphon Trio“…is a piano trio that plays with strength and unanimity… big, bold, almost orchestral performances.” wrote the Los Angeles Times. This chamber music performance will awake you to the beauty of an outstanding ensemble in their upcoming performance at 2:30 pm in Faye Spanos Concert Hall, on Sunday April 10, 2022.

Recently celebrating its 29th anniversary, the Gryphon Trio (Annalee Patipatanakoon, violin; Roman Borys, cello; James Parker, piano) has impressed international audiences and the press with its highly refined, dynamic performances and has firmly established itself as one of the world’s preeminent piano trios. The trio regularly performs throughout North America and Europe and their 17 recordings are an encyclopedia of works for the genre. They have commissioned over 75 new works, and regularly collaborate on projects that push the boundaries of chamber music. Honours include two Juno Awards for Classical Album of the Year, and the prestigious Walter Carsen Prize for Excellence in the Performing Arts for Canada Council.

“None of this would be possible if they weren’t phenomenal musicians in the first place… an example of what fine, engaging chamber music is all about.” Wrote John Terauds.

In 2011 the group launched its flagship educational project Listen Up!, created by the Trio in collaboration with composer Andrew Staniland and music educator Rob Kapilow from What Makes it Great?. Listen Up! involves entire schools in the creation of a new work for choir and piano trio: students compose poetry and music over the course of a school year, culminating in a joint performance by the Gryphon Trio and the school choir. The much-publicized project began in Ontario and has traveled across Canada.

“The Gryphon's musical conversations are animated and charming… it has character and detail to spare, and elegance is no small accomplishment.” Globe and Mail

The Gryphon Trio will provide a rich and rewarding chamber music concert presented by Stockton’s Friends of Chamber Music. Come enjoy the concert.

Tickets are $25 and are available in the lobby of Faye Spanos Concert Hall at UOP starting at 2:00 pm, 30 minutes before the concert. Students of any age are admitted free.

The audience is invited to join the artists in a Question and Answer session following the concert.

Friends of Chamber Music concerts are presented in cooperation with Pacific and its Conservatory of Music. For a brochure or more information about the FOCM annual series, please call 209-956-2868 or visit
