In the heart of Stockton, you will find Cancun Restaurant, the façade of which visually displays brightly colored handpainted traditional scenes, a restaurant established in 1976. The ambiance within the restaurant enhanced by water cascading sounds, the interior design includes high ceilings, and the friendly family reception provides the backdrop to the enjoyment of a good time along with good food and beverages. The menu includes a variety of traditional foods. Tacos, enchiladas, tamales, tostadas burritos, or quesadillas are among the lunch options. Food still consistent after decades in business. 2nd location in Escalon is also good.
I've eaten here twice this past month and I really want to like this place. It's in a convenient spot, right by the movie theater. The restaurant is nice and big, so it can handle large groups. The prices are super affordable and the portions are really generous. The customer service is great too. But, there's one big issue: they need to season their food better! Both times we went, our food tasted bland and just lacked seasoning. It's like they only use salt and pepper, and even then, they barely put enough. I'm a foodie, so I usually always finish my plate. This was the first time I didn't finish my food and didn't ask for a to-go box. I hope the owner/manager sees this and steps up their game because this spot has tons of potential. First time we ate there we ordered the shrimp tacos & a super steak burrito. Second time we ate there we ordered the chicken flautas & a combination plate with chicken enchiladas & chicken taco. Their chicken literally had zero taste to it.
Food was actually good. Beef was tender (Chile Colorado). Chicken wasn't dry in the taco. I ordered the no.2. Chile Verde wasn't bland but could of been more robust in flavor. Chips and salsa was a miss only because the chips seem store bought (salsa was fine) overall a good experience.
This place used to be amazing, it has great potential. They just urgently need to get it remodeled. The ladies that helped us tried their best but there's only so much they can do. The restrooms were gross food was edible but not great. They definitely need new cups and dishes we all got different sizes and color. they even served us a shot in a measuring cup. I really hope they renovate and bring this restaurant back to its glory days. Love the walls and art.
