Located in the Historic Waterfront Warehouse at the Downtown Stockton Marina, Nena's has been a Mexican culinary tradition in Stockton since 1985. "A Place that feels like home and tastes like Mexico." Enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, or just appetizers!
This waterfront restaurant is known for it's homemade tortillas. Make sure to order some to soak up the extra sauce, or to roll a burrito with your side of beans.
Perfectly located right off the freeway this local gem is a great stop along the way for authentic Mexican food while you travel through town. If you are lucky enough to work close by, it's also a nice treat for a team outing or lunch date with your coworkers. The large bar is also great for after work margaritas or date night with your favorite person.
Food and service were great.. I never had a tortilla that tasted so good. The hours said they opened at 7am but I'm this day we were standing outside till 730am and we're seated promptly. I took away a star for the wait and I felt my table was dirty and sticky. By the time I finished my breakfast the bar was open and he was very welcoming brought chips and dips but I told him no thanks bc I just finished eating
A wonderful experience... a great brunch with my husband with great food and great service... We will definitely be going back soon... can't wait... 😋 yummy
Really 3.5 stars. I would give 5 actually if they cleaned up the restrooms and turned on more fans. It was so hot in there yesterday. They have great food but they need to restock and clean their restrooms. Of course the tortillas are amazing and the salsa is on point.
I hadn't been here in a while, so I was happy to meet a friend for lunch here. I had the taco salad with birria, and it was as delicious as I remember. The homemade flour tortillas are still my absolute favorite! Our server was welcoming and friendly. She was attentive to our needs and quick to tell our drinks. Overall, this was a great visit. I can't wait to go back!
Delicious food. Friendly service. If you like it hot ask for a side of the vampire sauce. It brings the heat. My daughter is not a big Mexican food fan so had the burger and fries. Loved it!!!
Sat right away. Ordered not long after getting drinks. Food however did take about 30 mins to start coming out. The burger one of us ordered, had the bottom bun burnt and the bun is bigger than the insides of the burger. Forgot to take pic of the rest of the burger... Green enchiladas were actually a bit spicy which was a nice surprise. There was a waiter that kept coming by to see if we needed anything, during our whole visit. In general, the food was good and the staff was attentive. Might not return to this location though because of long wait time for food to be served and it is quite noisy unlike the other location on B St. It's noisy mostly because of the people at the bar area but also one hostess who would sit customers arriving. She would literally yell out to them or if someone was picking up an order, she would yell to them, asking why they were waiting.
Fantastic Mexican food! Fresh tortillas that you can watch being made. Authentic flavor north of the border. This location was recommended to me by a friend and I'm glad they did! 100% spot on! Friendly staff and very quick service. No issues. I will definitely stop again when I'm in the Stockton area.
We sat down n noticed the obvious. Mexican eating tradition, is a bit like making tamales. You take your time n enjoy friends in a friendly atmosphere. Food was delicious, service attentive. My compliments to entire staff.
We absolutely loved it. Our 1st time. Food was delicious, the homemade tortillas are amazing. Definitely will be back
I first walked in with my guitar and my bag and went to the bar to have a drink. There's a lot of homeless people in this area so it was kind of a test. The bartender quickly served me and no one even questioned why I had the equipment. They even offered me a table. On my way out I went to the restroom which was really hot. So is in the middle of the restaurant, the restroom, and it's air conditioned I think, but by the time I handled my business I was sweating. And that is about the only negative that this place has. The food was delicious. The service was kind and on point even the manager came over and asked me. Was everything great during the course of my meal? It's like they got restaurant 101 down. They make their own tortillas and you can go and watch them doing it, so there is some craft going on and show happening. It's just a real genuine dining experience. It has the big tables for big families and they're not really crammed really close together but you get the feel that this is a family restaurant. There's ample parking out back and in the front and on the side. So this place is in a really good position on the water. I really enjoyed this restaurant and I hope that they do well. Oh, and the only other caveat is that they do not serve you food to go off the back dock. You have to walk in the front door and talk to either the bartender or a weight staff in order to order and then they'll hand it to you and then you can go out the front door. Seems like a missed opportunity.
Beans and flour tortillas were good. The beef in the fajitas were overcooked and tough. I was hungry so I ate it. Service was ok. I usually like to take home my leftover food but didn't want to from here. The mimosas were yummy. Probably wouldn't go back since there are many other options for Mexican food in Stockton.
Convenient spot that had nice size plates and drinks. Probably chose wrong day to stop in as they were busy and bar service was a little slow. Food was pretty decent. Drink was good.
Ooooommmmggggg. Took my wife for her birthday and she was completely satisfied. Made her day. We shared a molcajete and had some drinks from the bar. The familiar michelada is delicious. Hand made corn and flour tortillas and the food is always fresh and flavorful. Our little piece of mexico. Oh yeah, be sure to tip javier the bartender for his excellent service
Enjoyed a lunch here with a large group of friends. There were 15 of us and the hostess sat us within 10 minutes without a reservation. The food here is morr authentic Mexican than Mexican American. PROS: Fresh, large, flour tortillas. Some of the best flour tortillas that I have ever had. They are worth the $1.25 for an extra. The refried beans are delicious. The service is friendly and professional. The enchilada was crisp and very tasty. The smell of the fajitas engaged my olfactories. The view from the atrium is lovely as it looks out onto the delta. CONS: The cheese selection is not typical Mexican American. There was too much cheese to tortilla. The food came out at various times so it took time to eat together. The flauta chicken was dry and overcooked.
This restaurant is located at a beautiful location by the Stockton Port. I would recommend requesting a table outside, if the weather permits. Horchata: delicious but not refill Salsa that is served with chips before ordering is spicy but great. Bacon wrapped shrimp, shrimp cocktail, carne asada platter and menudo are some of our favorites. flour tortillas hand-made and are pretty good. I ordered nachos but they come with melted cheddar cheese and grated cheese. I do not like melted cheddar on Mexican restaurant nachos. Next time, I will order them without the cheddar and know it will be better.
This is a decent spot to go to if you are looking for a mexican food restaurant to go to. There is a small menu so your ootions are limited. Lots of drinks and other options to choose from. I got enchiladas there and they came out decently.
Best hand made tortillas, nice place to dine in,and delicious carne asada!
Best dinning experience around Stockton area, make you feel like part of their family!! 👍👍
Great place to eat on the water! Always great food! Thank you Nena and Arturo!
I went to lunch here and found they had seating outside which was nice and they are using social distancing and keep the area very clean. They also check your temp and make sure that you as well as workers are following health standards.. I ordered 1 shrimp 🍤 tostada and it was a very generous helping. It was a full plate. " I posted a pic" Great authentic Mexican food.
It's alright place. I don't understand the whole hype about Nenas honesty. Food is a hit or miss there and environment is somewhat OK. Service is also OK. Don't expect them to lower your bill or any discounts on your tab even after a mishap on servers end.
Fajitas were excellent and such a large portion I couldn't eat it all I had to bring home a box
Thank you Nenas! I took a first date. And she loved it!! The outside seating is romantic and intimidate. We got Margaritas. And on a hot evening hit the spot. You follow that up with their fajitas. That have such an amazing flavor. It wasn't hard to close the deal at the end of the night. Thank you Nena's for the assist!!! Lmao. P.s. I took home almost as much food as I ate. And it was even better 5 hours later. The juices fully penetrated the food. Making it even juicer and flavorfull. Do not pad up the chance to take the food home and eat it later!!
The food was delicious, portions were big, and staff was friendly and efficient. 10/10 would recommend
The owner, Art nice guy. And he runs a tight ship. If you don't eat here then you are missing out. I say treat yourself don't cheat yourself.
Delicious food! Pulled into town with family an stayed at a local hotel who reccomend the spot! After a long day some authentic Mexican food seemed perfect. It was! Absolutely perfect! Large portions, great service, yummy drinks! Only wish we had pictures to share.
The food is amazing. They need a little work on greeting people when they show up. Other then that service was good.
Absolutely hidden, but even more amazing! Great food, great staff and even good music!
Nena's is home for the best restaurant to get authentic style Mexican food. From the staff to the ambiance, and taste. If you ask anybody in town where to get Tortillas, they're immediate answer should be Nena's. At this location you will find bar seating, patio dining and even tables with an open view of the Delta.
I likes the atmosphere and vibe. Servers Erica was great and respectful. Loved the large portions for the price. Erica was super sweet & i loved that she didn't rush me.
Food was delicious. Our waitress Yolanda is amazing she's friendly, funny, sweet and has extremely fast service. Quite a lovely lady. Would return just because of her.
Excellent authentic Mexican food. Busy place that is alive with food and noise. Expect to wait for a table. Mariachi band. Waterfront outside seating as an option. Accessible. Restrooms. Full bar. Credit cards ok. Parking lot and street parking.
The chili verde was way too salty. It did not have any flavor. The tortillas were delicious and homemade. They were busy, but did their best to be efficient.
You can always count on a good meal and great ambiance here, homemade tortillas are amazing and everything is reasonably priced including drinks. The fajitas are my personal favorite. The mariachi is there on weekends
We made the mistake of coming here on a Sunday one hour before closing. Right when we walked in the door a hostess shouted at us and said were closed. Then another host came up to us and said don't mind her and seated us at a high top bar table in the middle of the room. We were brought chips and salsa pretty quickly and that's where the service dropped off. For another 20 minutes we waited for a server. Then when I talked to the general manager she explained to me that they were understaffed and that she would personally make our drinks. I would have left three stars at this point if it wasn't for the fact that the margaritas had little or no alcohol in them. The place was also very dirty with dirty dishes and dirty cups lining the entire bar.
Very tasty food. Enchiladas were different from what I was expecting (more like baked tacos with a little bit of sauce) but still good. Margarita was perfect.
Little restaurant in a very cool looking historic building serving great Mexican food. Chips and Salsa to start along with quick appetizers. House made fresh tortillas are an excellent top to some great tasting food. Place can be busy so expect a short wait but it is worth it once you get the food
Been here twice now and both times were great. Great service even when busy! The band is excellent! Sat at the bar on first visit and it was nice too.
There was three of us at the table and only one of us yeah well we ordered. Didn't want to send it back. Very slow and bringing salsa out. Bingo on here for years the food is always been good. Well worth going to. Everybody has her bad days. I highly recommend this place.
Food was good, but it stops there. My wife ordered a gin & tonic and got something with tequila. She ended-up getting a beer too. After the food arrived, we didn’t see our waitress again until she gave us the bill, which was wrong. We didn’t have whiskey, but it was the same price as 2 beers. After 20 minutes waiting for her to take the bill & credit card, we just walked to the front and paid at the desk. We’ll look for another Mexican food restaurant when in the area or just sit at the bar.
