7th Annual White Cane Awareness Walk & Celebration

Overview
The San Joaquin County Chapter National Federation of the Blind (NFB) of California will hold the 7th Annual White Cane Awareness Walk & Celebration on Saturday, October 11, 11 AM to 2 PM in Stockton, CA, in collaboration with Lions Clubs and San Joaquin Regional Transit District. They will have info tables and activities from 11 AM to 12 PM followed by a proclamation ceremony from 12 PM to 12:30 PM. This celebration will take place north of the driveway (at the northwest corner of Pacific Ave. & Yokuts Ave.) of San Joaquin Delta College, 5151 Pacific Ave., Stockton, CA 95207.
Following the proclamation ceremony there will be a short awareness walk from Delta College to Mountain Mike’s Pizza, 1000 W. Robinhood Dr., Stockton, CA 95207 where participants can choose to stay on to eat lunch together in support of the SJC Chapter NFB‘s all-day fundraiser there. Show our flyer or mention “NFB” at the cashier on October 11, and a generous percentage of the proceeds will be donated to our Chapter!

Saturday, October 11:
11:00 AM-12:00 PM:
Access San Joaquin will have an info table, the NFB will be writing names in Braille and the Lions Clubs will be hosting blindness awareness challenges and collecting unwanted eyeglasses, pull tabs and new or gently used sneakers to recycle and help others in need. Volunteers will be teaching participants techniques to guide and interact with a blind person and allowing people to take a supervised “White Cane Wander” under blindfold to see what it’s like to navigate using a white cane and your other senses!
12:00-12:30 PM:
Proclamation ceremony, group photo and assembling of walkers behind the Nfb banner for our awareness walk.
12:30-1:00:
Group will walk together from the Delta College driveway to Mountain Mike’s, 1000 W. Robinhood Dr., Stockton. Walk ends.
1:00-2:00:
(Optional) Walkers will order takeout or stay on to celebrate and support the Nfb‘s all-day, October 11 fundraiser at Mountain Mike’s Robinhood.
