Artist Talk with Professor Mario Moreno: El Arté Revolucionario–In Search of Pancho Villa y Adelita
Overview
In conjunction with the Delta College Art Faculty Exhibition, opening January 22 – February 12, 2026, the Horton Art Gallery is proud to present an Artist Talk with Studio Arts Professor, Mario Moreno. The talk will take place in the Campesino Forum on the Stockton campus of Delta College on February 4, 12:30-1:30pm.
Professor Moreno will discuss his work created during his sabbatical journey through Mexico, Panama, Colombia, Costa Rica, and New York. Shaped by the harsh realities faced by immigrants, enriched by deep historical memory, and inspired by the places and people encountered along the way, these works call forth revolutionary figures of Mexican history to help immigrant students reconnect with their cultural heritage, dignity, and collective resilience. The artworks, now on view at the Horton Gallery, feature two large-scale paintings, Francisco “Pancho” Villa and Adelita, alongside two handcrafted ceremonial drums, or huehuetls in the Aztec/Nahuatl tradition, and accompanied by related mixed-media pieces that extend the visual and cultural narrative.
Professor Moreno will present a Gallery Tour following his talk to see his work along with the full Faculty Art Exhibition, which can also be found on the Gallery’s website, horton-gallery.deltacollege.edu
