Pray 4 My Hood
Overview
The Stockton community will shine with great music, spoken word, family fun, and help for those in need at the first community Pray 4 My Hood event on Friday, May 9, from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm, at Stockton’s Van Buskirk Park. The event is free, family friendly, and open to all.
“Get ready for a positive, uplifting, family friendly event,” said event co-organizer and rapper Antonio Hernandez. “We have some big talent coming to spread the message of love, forgiveness, and doing good.”
Performers will include positive hip-hop rapper E.G.R., Stockton’s Nu Tone, Sevin, and Dontae Ralston.
Stockton native and CEO of Elevate209, Vince Carter, will be a special guest speaker. Carter grew up on the streets of South Stockton and now leads a local nonprofit.
Pray 4 My Hood features hip hop artists who embrace Christianity and reject the stereotypical rap culture of gangs, guns, and drugs. In some cases, these artists are formerly incarcerated or have turned their lives around.
The festival is designed to be fun, positive, family-friendly, and with a community service element. Organizers have arranged for free groceries from Inner City Action, free haircuts being provided by 8 local barbers, face painting, and jump houses for kids.
