Ironstone is nestled in California’s Sierra Foothills’ charming gold rush town of Murphys. The seven-story premier winery and entertainment complex is surrounded by 14.5 acres of landscaped gardens.
The building is a modern replica of an 1859 Gold Stamp Mill complete with tasting room, gourmet delicatessen, aging cavern, conference facilities, and the Heritage Museum and Jewelry Shoppe which contains the world’s largest specimen of Crystalline Gold Leaf – a 44-pound treasure uncovered just a few miles from the winery.
During summer, the winery’s Ironstone Amphitheater plays host to a concert series with world-class artists from several types of music.
Tasting Fee:$5 for 5 wines. Fees are waived with wine purchase.
Beautiful flowers growing in baskets and containers leading to the entrance. Happened upon the chef on the grounds who shared tons of interesting information. Went inside for a wine tasting with a large variety of options. A very nice afternoon.
The grounds are stunning at this winery. As a wedding location it makes for beautiful backgrounds. The wines are good but not great but the tasting room area is very nice.
Best vineyard near Murphys, CA! Has beautiful landscaping, places to enjoy wine and light meals, great wine tasting experience for a low price, has evening concerts- just check their website- it has small gift store and cool museum with an actual huge gold nugget at their museum! So worth the trip! Murphy town is a great place to walk around, taste wines 🍷 and shop! The Moaning Caverns is not far and offers zip lining and cave tour!
This review is for the 4th of July event in 2022. Admission for adults was $20/$10 for kids 6+ and I felt it was worth it since it included a fantastic 30 minute fireworks show, free climbing wall and bouncy houses for the kids, various other entertainment like jugglers and a magic show, plus music the whole time. Good wine and beer offerings and the the carafes were a good deal. The only negative was the food options (you can't bring your own in). There was one really good taco truck, but they sold out of everything except bacon wrapped hot dogs by 7 pm. The venue vendors had rather mediocre hot dogs, corn dogs, sandwiches, cold cheese sauce on the nachos. Food positives: the curly fries, soft serve ice cream and Red Apple.
A wonderful way to celebrate our 33rd anniversary. Picnic table by the creek and lake beneath the beautiful shade trees at Ironstone Winery. Patty at the tasting bar was so nice and helpful. Got us all setup with plastic carafe and cups to take outside.
They give tours of the property! I took a very informative tour with Conrad, who has many years of personal experience with the property and the family! He shared so many interesting and entertaining stories linking the history of the property with California historical events and other context. Thank you, Conrad!
Great place to explore . Museums, gardens, pathways. I always enjoy coming here and seeing the displays and revisiting the gardens. Don’t have to come here just for wine tasting..
Nice place to visit and take family and friends for a relaxed and fun outing while in Murphys. This is a cool place with some neat history. The grounds are nice and the wine is good. Cute little shop with little gifts and such. Everyone was really nice and the place is very well kept. When in the area we will go back.
Was a gift from Dan & Sandy we had a great time! Everyone here is in positive mode! Return because of the bartenders
Peaceful and magical place. We spontaneously decided to stop at Ironstone for lunch and enjoyed the delicious food at the lower Cafe (it closes at 2pm but the deli in the taste room is open later). The service was impeccable and our waitress was a saint. I look forward to coming back in the future. Highly recommend the old vine zin, waffle stack, and/or the gold miner burger!
Have seen two concerts here and we absolutely love it. No bay area driving. Just a beautiful vineyard with a wonderful amphitheater. Looking forward to seeing Billy Idol this coming weekend.
Reopening with restrictions in place. Doing great job trying to keep everyone safe. And lunch was good to boot. Win win.
Spent the evening enjoying dinner on the patio for Tapas evening. The food was excellent. The chef and staff did an excellent job. A definite weekend hit spot!!
Great place! Came for the tapas and wine. The wine was great, the tapas were delicious, the ice cream was superb. The service was atrocious. We were seated quickly, we got our water, wine and food quickly as well. However, our server only came to our table a couple of times. We wanted more wine, but by the time he came back we were DONE. The service killed our entire mood and trip here. I felt like he was so much more friendly to everyone else. The food was great so I would come back, but if I saw him coming towards me to be my server, I would have to politely request someone else.
Outdoor tastings are great alternative during pandemic, but between plastic cups and standing in the heat, all ambiance has been lost. Covid-19 is usually transmitted via air, so use real glasses and offer plastic cups to those who ask for it, otherwise I feel like I wanna finish my tastings ASAP and move on. Their theater is great for drive in movies!
Wonderful wine tasting. Delicious lunch. Hung around little lake for a few hours with good friends.
Went to the newer event DRIVE IN theatre! It was awesome! You can get food, drinks, wine, beer. It's a great service during these times of ridiculous social distancing.
One of our favorite places for lunch in Murphys. Sitting outside on the patio sipping wine and looking at the fall colors while enjoying a meal. Cant ask for much more than that.
What a beautiful venue. I can't say enough about the great wine the food and the wonderful staff. I highly recommend visiting Ironstone Vineyards in this beautiful part of California
Dropped by here as tourists staying in Murphy’s for the weekend. Definitely recommend making a trip to Ironstone. We ordered some sandwiches and a fromage board as well as some wine flights for take out. It did take quite some time to get the sandwiches, but it seems like this was because the sandwiches (pesto chicken and tri tip) were made to order—fresh and delicious according to the group. They have a very large picnic area (you can socially distance!) with a little pond that you sit by. Very well kept and adds a lot to the experience. Staff is very friendly and helpful too!
Staff were very accommodating and made our wine tasting very enjoyable. Excellent food and wine, we ended up joining as members, all in all we had an outstanding experience.
Food was great, the grounds a pleasure to walk, especially with so many flowers in bloom; however, they were severely understaffed and that took away from the experience. I rather not be served by someone in flip-flops because there are not enough people. It is certainly not the server's fault, it is a management issue. Try the cheese board with meats.... it was great.
We took a road trip here on a nice sunny spring day. We miss our "annual venture" to "Daffodil Hill" which closed within the last two years because of all the vehicle traffic it created. On a suggestion from one of my wife's friend's who loves flowers, suggested a visit to this place. This place was amazing in all of it's variety of "spring" flowers and manicured grounds. They also have an amazing museum which tells about the history and some amazing petrified stone wood dating back millions of years ago. The restaurant menu offers a variety of sandwiches which were reasonably priced and the staff friendly. Our trip for this particular adventure was to see and enjoy the many flowers grown here and we were not disappointed. Overall we had a great time.
A truly remarkable place. Been passing Murphys so many times and didn't realize what I was missing. Was there on Sunday and it was not crowded at all. We walked around and explored the park, the museum, the cave. Finally had lunch at the restaurant. The service is outstanding, the food tastes really good. I highly recommend cheese platter and a wine flight.
The outstanding customer service led to my wife and I buying a case of wine and becoming wine club members. Great wine and yummy food. Can’t wait to come back!!!
The wine tasting experience was very good and the gentleman assisting very knowledgeable. Even though I have tasted for 40 + years, he showed me things I never knew. We also ate lunch at their Bistro. The appetizer and soup were very good. The Mimosas were undrinkable. The rest of the food was horrible.
Absolutely beautiful place. Barrels of flowers;tulips, daffodils, pansies and more. Lovely wine related gift shop and tasting area with a view amongst the oak trees. Museum with interesting displays AND the 45 pound gold nugget! (In a walk through vault.) The people were terrific!
We had a wonderful time. The property was immaculate manicured. Staff was super friendly. Very knowledgeable and very helpful. A few of us would love to live on the property!
Lovely grounds, great selection of products and very interesting museum and jewellery store. Would love to see a concert here one day.
Great winery with great people awesome food and a knowledgeable staff that will help you find the wine you love and discover new ones too. Always a blast to go and the campus is gorgeous. Love being a member and hearing stories and seeing all there is to see.
Ate at the Ironstone Bistro. Food was great! Best ahi tuna and greens ever! Friendly staff and very attentive! Live music too!
Our wine tasting with Judi was wonderful. She was very knowledgeable. Our dinner in the Bistro was amazing! Mary was such a great server. Another woman served us, too, not sure we got her name but also contributed to a great meal. August 8, 2021
We had an elevated tour with Bucky, and an amazing conversation with Conrad while waiting for the tour to begin. It was clear from the start this place is well-loved by the staff, and that makes all the difference. I highly recommend the elevated experience with tastings of wine and snacks to accompany. We returned for dinner at the bistro and loved the cauliflower appetizer and the burrata ravioli! Our server was wonderful. Absolutely would recommend to anyone looking to learn about wine, or just enjoy a nice time.
Sound from stage was superb. Staff could do a better job of clearing standing patrons in the walkway for the lawn viewers. Also, brainstorm, create, improve a more efficient exit for vehicles. There IS a solution.
Even up you don't drink wine (but the wine is so good), it's worth a visit just to see their grounds. Especially beautiful in the fall!
