Overview
The San Joaquin County Historical Museum, located inside of Micke Grove Regional Park, reveals the fascinating history of the region, from the Yokuts and Miwok through Captain Charles Weber (founder of Stockton and first farmer in the area) and the development of modern agriculture. The Museum has eight exhibition buildings, four historic buildings — including the Charles Weber cottage (1847) and Calaveras School (1866) — and features room dioramas of Weber family furnishings, a children’s gallery, and large displays of hand tools and agricultural equipment. Don't forget to visit the Gift Shop on the way out! The San Joaquin County Historical Soceity & Museum also hosts their annual Festival of Trees Christmas event that takes place each year in December. Visit the San Joaquin County Historical Society and Museum's official website for an event calendar.

What a gem! I can't recommend this enough. If you want a super interesting way to spend a relaxed morning or afternoon, give it a shot! This isn't an art museum, but for me it's far more interesting! I originally purchased the annual membership for the free Micke Grove parking and wanted to see what the museum was about, and I realized two things: 1, there's a tonnnn of interesting history in this county and 2, I'd been here as a little kid and totally forgot! The Calaveras schoolhouse and blacksmith shop sparked some memories for me! There's too many different exhibits to mention here, and my pictures are far from representative of what there is to see. But I learned so much about the local industry and business, Native American heritage, agriculture, how the county was developed, it was great. And it's a nice setting and very pleasant for a walk, there's a nice shaded trail you can take. Looking forward to the old west town expansion opening this year!
Great educational spot kids and families. Local history with lots to see. My wife and I volunteer as docent and we learn more every time plus it's special to see the kids learning. Festival of Trees in December is a super family event to celebrate the Christmas holiday.
My family and I love this Museum. Has a lot of local history. We went to the festival of trees December 2023 for the first time. It was such a beautiful event! There were so many different beautiful trees and people dressed in time period clothing. We love taking our kids to historical places and they enjoy it as well. We will definitely be back for the festival this year.
Located inside Micke Grove Park, I went here for a school Art event. I’ve been to Micke Grove a few times & never realized this museum was on the property. Our event was after hours & school sponsored so we didn’t pay to enter park or museum. Park & museum fees will apply. This is a really cute area that would be great for receptions, pictures. Minimal to no real information is available to public unless you become a member. Not sure how this is a San Joaquin County Park Museum with manicured landscape, minimal public access, while the main picnic areas in Micke Grove are not maintained.
