Join us at the Haggin for a talk and book signing with William Maxwell featuring his new book, Booklegger: Anecdotal Recollections of a Skid Row Bookseller. Published in 2023 by Tuleburg Press, Booklegger recounts Maxwell’s professional bookselling career through multiple store locations amidst a slew of local and extraordinary characters.
Maxwell, a 4th generation Stocktonian and longtime owner of Maxwell’s Bookmark on Pacific Avenue, is currently employed as Archives Manager of the Bank of Stockton’s Historical Photograph Collection and bank archives, a position he has held since closing his book shop in 2003. He continues to sell used and rare books online and at antiquarian book fairs around the state.
