"Connecting with Nature" Central Valley Community Day
Overview
This community event is free and open to the public, and you’re invited!
This first-ever “Connecting with Nature” event—organized by the California Native Plant Society (CNPS), North San Joaquin Valley Chapter and sponsored by the UC Master Gardener program in San Joaquin County—focuses on the importance of native plants in supporting wildlife and restoring ecosystem health.
Birds and butterflies aren’t just pretty! They’re a major component of our Central Valley ecosystem, but they need our help. Native plants are key to the survival of local wildlife survive, and you can be a part of this effort.
The event will begin with a video featuring Douglas Tallamy, renowned author of Nature’s Best Hope and Bringing Nature Home. His message of hope and inspiration will help you understand the challenges faced by nature, and will empower you with knowledge about ways to help.
After the video screening, representatives from local environmental organizations, UC Master Gardeners, and other community groups will give brief presentations about their programs and missions. Learn about many important issues, what is being done, and what each of us can do in natural settings and in public, private, and residential landscapes.
Following the presentations, you can browse information tables to learn about many related activities, events, tours, hikes, meetings, and volunteer opportunities around the county.
While at the Ag. Center, feel free to enjoy the adjacent Learning Landscape, which includes a California Native Garden, a Pollinator Garden, and much more.
All are welcome! Please spread the word!
