Jose M. Hernandez Reaching for the Stars Foundation 20th Anniversary Gala and Scholarship Awards
Overview
For two decades, the José M. Hernández Reaching for the Stars Foundation has transformed dreams into opportunities, empowering students from underserved communities to pursue careers that shape our future. This year, the Foundation proudly celebrates its 20th Anniversary with an unforgettable Gala honoring its legacy, inspiring the next generation, and raising funds for scholarships and educational programs.
The evening will bring together community leaders, educators, industry professionals, alumni, and supporters committed to expanding access to education and creating pathways to success in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Agriculture & Climate Change, and Mathematics (STEAAM).
Guests will experience a powerful program featuring two extraordinary pioneers whose stories embody perseverance, innovation, and the power of education. NASA astronaut and former Johnson Space Center Director Dr. Ellen Ochoa, the first Hispanic director and second woman to lead the center, will share insights from her groundbreaking career. Joining her is NASA astronaut Dr. José M. Hernández, whose journey from migrant farmworker to Space Shuttle Discovery mission specialist inspired the acclaimed film "A Million Miles Away".
A highlight of the evening will be the presentation of scholarship awards to deserving college juniors and seniors pursuing STEAAM degrees. These scholarships are investments in future scientists, engineers, artists, innovators, and changemakers.
Funds raised through the Gala directly support the Foundation’s programs, including Science Blast and Summer Academies, which provide hands-on learning experiences that ignite curiosity and build confidence.
Join us as we celebrate 20 years of impact, honor remarkable achievements, and continue reaching for the stars—together.
