Stockton Assembly Center Open House
Overview
The Stockton Assembly Center Open House will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., at the site of the Stockton Assembly Center Hospital Building, marking the anniversary of its opening.
The Stockton Assembly Center was one of fifteen temporary detention facilities established in 1942 under Executive Order 9066, where more than 4,000 Japanese Americans from San Joaquin County and surrounding communities were forcibly incarcerated. This open house invites the public to gather at the historic site, reflect on the injustice it represents, and honor the resilience of those who endured it. We hope to build momentum toward efforts to secure funding to develop the site into a transformative memorial and interpretive space.
The program will include historical highlights, brief remarks, and light refreshments.
