Wonderful historical gem of Stockton. Beautiful old-time neighborhood market. There is so much to look at while shopping and waiting for your food order. And the food is excellent as it always has been. Love their bread that has not wavered from the past. Definitely recommend if you have not had a chance to visit.
We were greeted right away as we walked into this small neighborhood corner store. We drove from Elk Grove to try one of their highly recommended sandwiches. The pastrami was excellent and the portion of meat exceeded our expectations. Ordering is a well organized process from the moment you walk in. Just pick up an order form by the entrance and select your sandwich. Your form will be taken by one of the smiling sandwich makers and the wait is very short. Make the trip to this neighborhood gem in Stockton.
I have been a fan of Genova's since arriving in Stockton. I live nearby and often walk over here for lunch. For a place that's been here going on 80 years, to have such a regularly frequented business after all this time, should give you some insight on the delicious sandwiches and the lovely smiles abundant here.
so for all the great history and really good sandwiches if you're not already aware of the ordering process don't expect any patience or help from whomever my husband dealt with the other day... literally was told I don't have time for this with alot of attitude because he had been there ONCE and was unaware of the order slips process...1st time a nice lady just took his verbal order... not like he held up the line he just thought he could speak his order to her like the 1st visit... her (2nd lady) customer service sucks because all she could do was expect a piece of paper not actually dealing with a person i guess... maybe next time try saying here sir let me grab this order slip and show you how as you tell it to me if it's that serious to have the damn paper... I guess 30 seconds is to much to ask for to make things easier for a possible return customer... great sandwiches great history mostly great employees
For years I've eaten Genova bread at restaurants throughout Stockton. Finally made it to the mothership in an ancient building on the corner of a residential neighborhood. It's a little hard to find, but definitely worth the effort for a fantastic, old-school Italian deli. Like every similar sandwich shop I visit, it obviously gets busy at lunch, but the wait was very short thanks to a fast, efficient and friendly staff. I had a roast beef sandwich on Dutch crunch and took home a sourdough round.
