This colder weather we’ve been experiencing has been causing quite the flurry of excitement in the Sierra, as temperatures start to drop, the snow starts to fall! After a couple of disappointing years, ski resorts in the Sierra Nevadas are ready for skiers and snowboarders to flock the mountain.
Here are 13 ski resorts just 3 hours or less from Stockton. Not all resorts are open yet, but when they do you’ll have all the information to hit the road and get up to the Mountains.
1. Diamond Peak
Located at Diamond Peak Resort in Incline Village, NV, and just about a 3-hour drive from Stockton, Diamond Peak is projected to open December 10th.
2. Sierra at Tahoe
Only 2.5 hours away from Stockton, Sierra at Tahoe Resort offers you more than just skiing and snowboarding. The resort offers snowshoeing, tubing and other winter activities to keep you busy.
3. Bear Valley
Opening day is November 28th this favorite is located up Highway 4 past Big Trees.
4. Boreal Mountain Resort
They want you to come and start skiing NOW! Boreal is open and ready for you to take on the Mountain anytime from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. You can get there in just 2 hours and 15 minutes and start your weekend off with fresh powder.
5. Dodge Ridge
Just under 100 miles away, you’ll find yourself at Dodge Ridge Ski Resort by Pinecrest, CA. Dodge Ridge is prepping for a strong winter ahead and isn’t open just yet but you can still get a deal by purchasing a season pass in the month of November!
6. Donner Ski Ranch
Family owned and operated Donner Ski Ranch sits in the famous Donner pass right outside of Truckee. They’ve got a tubing hill for the little ones while the big kids take on the slopes! Opening day TBA
7. Heavenly Lake Tahoe
Maybe one of the more well known ski resorts in the area, Heavenly offers an abundant list of activities during the winter season. Situated in the heart of South Lake Tahoe, you can take the breath-taking gondola ride up to the top of the mountain for an amazing view of Lake Tahoe. Opening day November 14th!
8. Homewood Mountain Resort
Named as one of Tahoe’s most beautiful resorts, you will find Homewood opening their lifts December 11th. Homewood is located on West Lake Tahoe.
Settled still in California but very close to Nevada, Kirkwood Resort spans across 2,300 acres of beautiful mountains and snow. Opening day November 14th.
10. NorthStar California
Opening day is November 14th! Plan a last minute snow trip this weekend by visiting this awesome resort and village. Take a break from all your activities and grab lunch at one of the many restaurants located in the NorthStar Village!
11. China Peak
Okay, we are stretching the 3 hour mark for this resort. Timing at 3 hours and 15 minutes, China Peak Mountain Resort is located east of Fresno! They are hoping to open near Thanksgiving. Take a break from the other resorts and try something new! Opening day TBA
12. Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows
Alpine Meadows is already open and Squaw Valley opens on November 14th! Squaw Valley is famously known for hosting the 1960 Winter Olympics. Take a tour of their Olympic Museum if skiing isn’t your thing and they still have the Olympic Village there too. If you haven’t have a chance to visit this resort yet this is the time to go!
13. Sugar Bowl Resort
Sugar Bowl has been around since 1939 so they know what they are doing. Located right outside of Truckee, it makes for an easy drive. Make this a weekend getaway and stay at their Lodge and skiing and snowboarding will be right in your backyard! Opening day projected to be December 13th.
