With summer here, our beautiful regional and county parks are a great way to spend your afternoons. Pack your day trip garb, hit the road, and make your way to these beautiful recreational havens in and around Port City.
Shumway Oak Grove Regional Park
Located at the Eight Mile Road exit off of I-5, the former home of the San Joaquin County Asparagus Festival houses a multitude of recreational activities. Visitors have access to a 10-acre lake, where they can enjoy fun on the water. Paddleboats and aqua cycles are available for rent on weekends from April to October. Moreover, the Shumway Oak Grove Nature Center offers educational programs and exhibits that detail the flowers native to the park and the San Joaquin Valley.
Micke Grove Regional Park
This historic 132-acre park is located on Micke Grove Road, just south of Armstrong Road. Home to a three-acre lake with a 40-foot water fountain, Micke Grove houses the Micke Grove Zoo, the beautiful Japanese Garden, and the San Joaquin County Historical Museum. Additionally, it has rental facilities, including outdoor picnic shelters, indoor facilities for receptions and events, softball fields, horseshoe pits, children’s playgrounds, a disc golf course, barbecue grills, and water-play accommodations.
Kennedy Park & Center
On D Street, off Farmington Road, Kennedy Park & Center offers over 17 acres of wide-open space, perfect for those seeking a spot to hit a few balls or simply sit back for an outdoor lunch. Kennedy Park features three baseball fields, a basketball court, a swimming pool, a children's playground, and picnic shelters and tables equipped with barbecue grills.
Boggs Tract Park & Center
Sitting on just under three acres off of Los Angeles Ave., this neighborhood park offers a lot for its smaller size. Blending recreation with gardening, Boggs provides a basketball court, baseball field, children’s playground, picnic tables, barbecues, as well as a community farm and center open Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
Victory Park
This beautiful park features palm trees, a lovely pond, and a playground area for the kids. This vast area provides play areas, ball fields, picnic sites, and BBQ pits. It's also home to the Stockton staple Haggin Museum, which houses an exquisite collection of art and history. During the summer, this park is also home to the Concerts in the Park series, where the community gathers to enjoy great live music in a stunning outdoor setting.
Oak Park
This piece of land sits as Stockton's largest park in the city, covering over 61 acres of land from Fulton Street to Harding Way. The grounds offer facilities for softball, baseball, and basketball as well as a pool, ice rink, and tennis center. Plus, Oak Park is the home to historic Billy Hebert Field, the former home of our Stockton Ports. Along with picnic tables and grills for bbq, Oak Park is a great spot to add to your park road trip.
